A wealthy California woman who founded a fire station in the Los Angeles area was sentenced Monday to 15 years to life in prison for killing two children while they were in a crosswalk more than three years ago.

Rebecca Grossman was speeding when she struck and killed Mark Iskander, 11, and his brother Jacob, 8, in a crosswalk on Sept. 29, 2020, in Westlake Village, a Los Angeles-area town Angeles.

“The loss of these two innocent lives has devastated their families and our community. Ms. Grossman’s callous disregard for human life is a stark reminder of the serious consequences of irresponsible behavior behind the wheel,” said Los Angeles County District Attorney. George. Gascón said in a statement.

When Grossman, now 60, hit the boys, he rear-ended a car driven by her then-boyfriend, former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Scott Erickson, prosecutors said. Erickson was not charged.

Prosecutors asked for a sentence of 34 years to life in prison.The boys’ mother, Nancy Iskander, told Grossman on Monday that she has no regrets about killing her two sons, NBC Los Angeles reported.

In a letter to the judge, Grossman said, “I am not a murderer” and “as God is my witness, I did not see anyone or anything on the road,” the station reported. “I swear I would crash my car into a tree to avoid hitting two little boys.”Rebbeca Grossman trial Rebecca Grossman left and her daughters appeared in court in Van Nuys on February 14th. The Charitable Foundation is an arm of the Grossman Burn Center. The Grossman Burn Center was founded by Dr. A. Richard Grossman, Peter Grossman’s father.County Sheriff’s Northern Patrol Division Commander Allen Castellano said in a statement that he hopes the verdict brings comfort to the family.

“This individual showed complete disregard for the life and safety of people in our community through his reckless actions that ultimately destroyed a family and robbed two children of a bright future,” he said.
